Can you convert a JPG to JEF?
A JPG (or JPEG) is a flat photo of pixels, not stitches, so it has to be digitized before it can become a JEF. Embify traces your JPG, cleans up the edges and writes a machine-ready JEF file. Because JPGs use lossy compression, a crisp, high-contrast image works far better than a small or blurry one — flat logos give the cleanest sew-out.
What is a JEF file?
A JEF file is the embroidery format used by Janome (and the closely related Elna and Kenmore) machines. Like PES, it stores both the stitches and the thread-colour information.
How to convert JPG to JEF
- Upload your JPG. Drop in your logo or artwork. Embify traces it to clean vector shapes automatically.
- Set the size and preview. Enter the real finished size (left chest, cap, full back…) and check the realistic 3D sew-out preview — exactly how it will stitch.
- Download your JEF file. JEF stores your thread colours, so your Janome or Elna machine prompts the right colour order. It's machine-ready, with the stitch path, jumps and trims already optimised.
The whole thing runs in your browser in a couple of minutes — nothing to install.
JPG to JEF. FAQs
How do I convert a JPG to a JEF file?
Upload your JPG to Embify, set the finished size, check the sew-out preview, choose JEF and download. Embify auto-digitizes the image into stitches for you.
Why does my JPG look blocky when converted to JEF?
JPG compression adds soft edges and noise. Upload the largest, sharpest version you have, or a PNG/SVG if possible, so Embify can trace clean edges into stitches.
Will the JEF file keep my colours?
Yes: it stores thread-colour information, so your machine prompts the correct colour changes.
Is the JPG to JEF converter free?
Yes: digitizing your artwork and previewing the result is free, with no card required. Downloading the finished file is £5 as a one-off, or a monthly plan if you convert regularly.
