What is a PES file?
A PES file is the embroidery format used by Brother and Baby Lock machines. It contains the stitch commands for your design and the thread-colour information, so your machine knows exactly which colours to change to and when. It's the most common format for home and small-business embroidery.
Which machines use PES?
PES is read by Brother and Baby Lock home and hobby machines, plus many Brother-compatible models. If your machine is one of those, PES is the format to download. If you're on a commercial machine, you may want DST instead.
How to convert your logo to PES
- Upload your logo (an SVG is sharpest; a clear PNG or JPG also works, Embify will trace it).
- Set the real finished size and check the live sew-out preview.
- Choose PES and download. The file carries the correct thread sequence and colour stops for your machine.
The whole thing takes a couple of minutes in your browser, with nothing to install.
PES file FAQs
Can I convert a PNG or JPG to PES?
Yes. Embify traces your image to clean vector shapes, digitizes it into stitches and exports a PES file. Bold, flat artwork converts best.
Will a PES file keep my colours?
Yes, PES stores thread-colour information, so your Brother or Baby Lock machine will prompt the correct colour changes.
Is converting to PES free?
Digitizing and previewing your design is free, with no card required. Downloading the finished PES file is £5 as a one-off, or a monthly plan if you convert regularly.
