The short answer

For professional hand digitizing, Wilcom EmbroideryStudio is the standard. For home embroiderers who want to learn: Hatch on Windows, or Embrilliance StitchArtist on Mac and Windows. For free: Ink/Stitch. If you just need a file from a logo, an online tool is quickest: Embify, EmbroidAI, SewFlow, StitchFast and Click-Stitch digitize automatically in a browser, and EasyDigitizer and Embrowser add hand tools.

Wilcom EmbroideryStudio

The tool many professional digitizers use, with hand control over every stitch and production features for shops. It is expensive, Windows only and takes weeks to learn. Worth it if digitizing is your job. Is Wilcom worth it?

Hatch Embroidery

Wilcom's home range. Digitizer gives you hand digitizing at a home price; Composer does not include it. Windows 11 only. Wilcom vs Hatch

Embrilliance StitchArtist

A popular choice on a Mac, in three levels. You digitize by hand, so expect to learn.

Ink/Stitch

Free and open source, inside the Inkscape drawing program. Real machine files, but you set up every stitch area yourself. Great for learning, slow for a busy shop.

Embify

Our tool. Upload a logo or type words, and Embify digitizes it automatically, checks it with a Sew Score and shows the sew-out before you pay. A studio board lets you put logos, words and shapes together, and edit or recolour any part. One £5 download gives every format: DST, PES, JEF, EXP, XXX and VP3. It does not do hand digitizing or open EMB files.

As each tool describes itself on its own site, 3 Nov 2026.

EmbroidAI

A browser digitizer with a set of free file tools. You buy credit packs, from US$5 for 50 credits to US$50 for 650, and they don't expire. A design costs 10 credits, so roughly US$0.77 to US$1 depending on the pack, and you only spend them when you download. It exports seven formats, HUS among them, and its editor lets you change colours, density, underlay and pathing. It describes its own stitch-by-stitch control as limited.

SewFlow

Built, in its own words, for people who've never digitized before. Plans run from US$9 a month for 25 AI downloads to US$39 for up to 200, and it offers digitizing by a person at US$20 a design. There are tools to paint, erase and recolour areas of a design, and a studio canvas. It exports JEF, DST, PES, EXP, XXX and SEW, but not VP3. We were shown US dollar prices, and the site may price by country.

EasyDigitizer

The strongest hand tools of the online group: automatic digitizing plus stitch-by-stitch editing, and it opens DST, PES, JEF, EXP, VP3 and TAP files to view and export again. It runs in any browser, phones included, and can be installed to work offline. One design is US$16.99 with every format and 30 days of re-exports, or US$49 a month, or US$384 a year. It doesn't export XXX, and refunds are only within 24 hours. If you want to hand-edit stitches online, this is the one to look at.

Embrowser

Mostly a hand-digitizing editor in the browser, with an auto-trace to start you off. The free plan keeps 10 designs and gives 2 auto-traces a week, and exporting is free. Hobby is $9.99 a month or $99.90 a year (the site shows no currency). It exports PES, DST, JEF, VP3, EXP and U01. It needs a desktop or laptop: it says phone screens are too small. A good free route if you are happy to learn hand digitizing.

StitchFast and Click-Stitch

Two more online tools that turn an image into a machine file. StitchFast charges £4.99 per file, less in packs of 5 or 10, or £29.99 a month unlimited, and also sells a Shopify app. Click-Stitch has a free tier for three small designs a day, of up to three colours and three inches, and Premium at US$3.99 a month or US$39.99 a year for up to 30 a day at up to 12 inches.

Common questions

What is the easiest embroidery digitizing software?

An online auto-digitizer: you upload a logo and download the file, with nothing to learn. Embify, EmbroidAI, SewFlow, StitchFast and Click-Stitch all work this way.

What is the best free embroidery digitizing software?

Ink/Stitch, if you are happy to digitize by hand on a computer. Embrowser is a free hand-digitizing editor in the browser. For automatic digitizing, Click-Stitch has a free tier for small designs, and most other online tools let you preview free.

What is the best embroidery software for Mac?

Embrilliance StitchArtist runs on a Mac, Ink/Stitch runs inside Inkscape, and online tools such as Embify, EasyDigitizer and Embrowser run in a Mac browser. Wilcom and Hatch need Windows.

What is the best embroidery software for beginners?

If you want to learn digitizing, Hatch, Embrilliance or Embrowser. If you just want files, an online auto-digitizer such as Embify or SewFlow.

Which online digitizer lets me edit the stitches?

EasyDigitizer and Embrowser have full hand tools in the browser. EmbroidAI lets you change colours, density, underlay and pathing. Embify lets you edit, recolour and resize parts of a design in its studio, but not move single stitches.

Can AI digitize embroidery?

Yes, for logos and lettering. Very small text, photos and special techniques still need a skilled digitizer.
