At a hundred logos a month the Wilcom licence is the cheapest line on the table. Someone still has to digitize those hundred logos by hand, and that time is the real cost of a production shop.

When it is worth it
- Digitizing is your job, or a big part of it.
- You do complex work that auto-digitizing cannot: 3D puff, appliqué, shading, tiny lettering.
- You already have the skill, so every hour in the software earns money.
When it is not
- You need a few logo files a month for your own shop or customers.
- You work on a Mac and would be paying for Parallels and Windows as well.
- You would rather spend the learning weeks selling.

Common questions
Is Wilcom the best embroidery software?
It is the standard for professional hand digitizing. Whether it is best for you depends on how much digitizing you do and whether you want to do it yourself.
Is Wilcom worth it for a beginner?
Usually not. Hatch is easier and cheaper to learn on, and an online tool needs no learning at all.
Is Wilcom worth it for a small embroidery business?
If you digitize more than a few logos a week yourself, it can be. If you mostly need files from customer logos, a £5 file or a monthly plan costs far less.
What is a cheaper alternative to Wilcom?
Hatch for home digitizing, Ink/Stitch for free, or Embify if you want the digitizing done for you.
